  • The purpose of companies cannot be only to make money
Companies must overcome environmental, social and economic challenges, says José Antonio Talledo, Co-President of Sistema B Peru. The organization is made up of 34 Peruvian companies, who seek to create a positive impact in different sectors.

Peru, like other countries in the world, has been going through serious problems in the social and environmental spheres; such as poverty gaps and global warming.

Against this worrying outlook, System B is on the move to use the power of business to help solve society's great challenges and build an inclusive and regenerative economy.

“In System B Peru we support the practice of the circular economy, which is a framework of systemic solutions that addresses global challenges, such as climate change, waste management and pollution” commented José Antonio Talledo, Co-President of Sistema B Peru.

In this sense, Talledo indicated that the purpose of companies cannot only be to earn money, but to have a triple impact.

“There is nothing wrong with making money and it is part of what any successful company has to pursue, but the purpose cannot be only. Companies with a purpose are those that work on triple impact: economic benefits, positive impact on the environment and on the communities”, he explained.

These three elements have to be worked equally. “That is what makes a company with a purpose successful and that is what B companies aim for,” Talledo said.

He explained that the main challenges that a B company has, like any other company, is that the entire supply chain and the collaborators themselves have the same objectives.

It is worth mentioning that the Community of B Corporations Peru is made up of 34 companies with 5,182 workers, who have annual collective income of more than USD 848 million.

On the other hand, he indicated that it would be ideal for the State to have some initiatives. "More and more companies should be encouraged to navigate these directions," he commented.
